What you need to know about Hobonichi Note

The “Hobonichi Note” is slightly different from ordinary notebooks. Let us introduce some features, to help you know what kind of notebook it is.

What you need to know 1
A new lined notebook that reduces eye strain

The ruled lines used in the “Hobonichi Note” are broken lines, which are actually a combination of short vertical lines and long horizontal lines. They perceptually look like straight lines, because of an optical illusion caused by the way our brains work.

*The ruled line design was developed by Prof. Haruo Hibino and his team of researchers at BB STONE Design Psychology Unit, Inc., a venture company of Chiba University’s Faculty of Engineering.
The lines are not connected but they look like they do
                        Short vertical lines and
                        Long horizontal lines
The spacing in between is the key
The point is that the lines are “designed to look like ruled lines even though they are not connected.”
That is why…

It lessens visual stress
The broken lines makes the notebook less intimidating when opened and won’t tire your eyes over an extended writing session.

It also increases mental concentration
As a result of a verification research using both our new ruled line notebook and existing ordinary ruled line notebooks, it was indicated that both the speed and accuracy of subjects’ task performance were the best for our new ruled line notebook. It suggests that our new ruled line design has an increase in concentration.

*The increase in the correct answer rate and speed of simple calculations suggests the possibility of increased mental concentration. Other evaluation experiments also demonstrated that our new ruled line design can be expected to
increase mental concentration.
*Results may vary. The effects are
not guaranteed for everyone.

What you need to know 2
Easily align headers, and draw neat graphs and charts

Aligning headers is easy because
the tiny vertical lines are there
The tiny vertical lines allow you to line up the start of each header or paragraph without much thought so that the notes you take will look neat and easier to read back through later.
You can use them as guides
                        for graphs and charts

Or even for writing in vertical lines

A perfect match for Hobonichi Note
The all-new “Pencil Board for Hobonichi Note!”

We now have a pencil board that fits the semi B5 size (179 x 252 mm / 7" x 10") Hobonichi Note. We recommend you to try it out with your Hobonichi Note.

Point 1
Prevents the pen from sliding on the page

The material used for it is the same synthetic paper material as the “Hobonichi Pencil Board” for the Hobonichi Techo, but thicker. It has a slight elasticity that softly catches the tip of the pen.

Point 2
Reversible design to match your mood

Time to concentrate!
                        Brightening up your mind
The front side has a navy background with a 5 mm grid, and the back side is a plain lemon yellow. You can use navy when you want to concentrate, and lemon yellow when you want to feel cheerful.

Point 3
The scale on the back can be used as a ruler

On the back, there is a 1 mm scale on the long side, which comes in handy when you need a ruler.

Point 4
A bit of joy on the tab

On the top is a tab that can be used as a marker or accent. The words “HOBONICHI NOTE” on the front and “HAVE FUN!” on the back will make you a little happy when you see them.

Point 5
The colors that match any Hobonichi Note

The exquisite coloring is also one of the charms. It goes well with the Hobonichi Note in any color, and we hope you enjoy it in various combinations.
