Many regions in Japan have their own unique fabrics, with characteristics based on the area’s climate and culture. This cover is made with one of these special textiles.

Home Spun is a hand-woven textile brought to Japan from England during the Meiji Period. The thick threads used in the textile are also woven by hand. The textile used in this cover is created in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, one of the last places to carry on the traditional art.

The thick threads used in this cover are deliberately left with an uneven thickness to recreate their original hand-spun style. The threads are dyed in a variety of colors, such as red, green, and white. This leaves the thin, dense sections of thread with a deep color, and the thick sections of thread with a lighter color. Weaving all these together creates a tweed material with a complex color scheme.

Because the textile uses threads with such variance, the weaving process requires extra steps and takes three times as long to complete. This slow, careful process results in a gentle, airy textile.

Everything — from the thread-spinning to the finishing touches — is performed by seasoned veterans in the small factory in Hanamaki.

Pattern alignment varies by cover: The exact alignment of the pattern across the cover varies by design, so your product will appear slightly differently than the product page example.
Material may fluff over time: The material may become fluffly from continued use.
Exterior may have threads protruding from the surface: Due to the nature of its material, the product exterior may include small threads protruding from the surface.
Use caution around sharp objects: The material in this product snags easily on sharp objects, so please handle with care.
Pen holders are rigid at first: The pen holders are rigid at first, making it difficult to insert pens. You can speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the pen holders in your hand.
Sliding no-slip pens into the pen holder: Pens with rubber, non-slip grips may be difficult to slide into the pen holder.
Maximum pen width of 13.5mm for pen holder: The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free bonus gift with select Japanese-version Hobonichi Web Shop products. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5mm (0.53”) in diameter.
Avoid using with Cover on Cover: This cover uses thicker materials than usual, so it may not fit. Forcing it into a Cover on Cover may damage the products.
Color may vary slightly based on viewing screen: The color of the product may be slightly different in actuality than compared to how it appeared on a computer or smartphone screen.
Interior of cover may be loose: The interior of the cover may not be perfectly taut due to limitations during the manufacturing process.
Plaid design may not be straight: Some covers may have a design that is not perfectly straight. This is an unavoidable aspect of the manufacturing process.
