A one-of-a-kind techo cover made out of used cardboard.

You can find cardboard boxes in any home. While theyʼre usually tossed when theyʼre no longer needed, thereʼs an artist out there that uses these boxes to create art. Fuyuki Shimazu started the project “Carton” in Tokyo, where he makes wallets and other supplies using cardboard boxes heʼs picked up in Japan and countries all over the world, taking advantage of the variety of print designs and warmth of found cardboard. When we found out about Shimazuʼs fascinating project, we gave him one of our Hobonichi Techo shipping boxes and had him make a techo cover out of it.

Come see the documentary that follows Fuyuki Shimazuʼs journey.

Fuyuki Shimazu travels the world and picks discarded cardboard for his collection, turning them into wallets and other practical items. Itʼs not just the cardboard that fascinates Shimazu, but the journey and story behind each one. This documentary follows Shimazu for three years as he travels the world exploring the origin, production, design, and people behind the cardboard boxes he encounters, with plenty of heart-warming interactions along the way.
