These pencil boards are designed to fit each size of the Hobonichi Techo book. They prevent ballpoint pens from slipping on the page and keep indentations from forming, making for a much more comfortable writing experience.
We’ve selected three designs from the work of picture-book artist Akiko Miyakoshi — each one inviting you to linger over her delicate brushwork, the texture of light and shadow, and the quiet sense of atmosphere and fragrance that drifts through her scenes.
The A6 size “Sunny Day” was inspired by a charming window scene Miyakoshi glimpsed while traveling through the Cotswolds in England, which she then let her imagination expand upon. The reverse side is yellow, evoking the warmth and brightness of sunlight.
The A5 size “In the Air” reflects Miyakoshi’s own love for travel, designed to capture “the feeling of wanting to fly away somewhere.” The reverse side is navy, carrying a quiet sense of night.
The Weeks size “Lazy Morning” was inspired by a photograph of French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. Miyakoshi says she “wanted to capture the fresh light of morning.” The reverse side is light blue, evoking the crisp morning air and the scent of clean sheets.
The back has markings at 1mm intervals along the long edge, so it can also be used as a ruler.
The corner of the pencil boards include a “Today” tab, which will act as a bookmark to show which day you’re on if you put it between the pages of your techo.

The Akiko Miyakoshi series includes techo covers, a Weeks, pencil boards, and a notebook. We hope you’ll enjoy using them together as a set. See the full Akiko Miyakoshi series here.
