The Moomin series was created in 1945 by Tove Jansson—Finland’s beloved author, painter, and artist. Set in Moominvalley, the stories follow the gentle and curious Moomintroll; the dream-chasing and romantic Moominpappa; the warm-hearted and nurturing Moominmamma; the mischievous and strong-willed Little My; and the freedom-loving, solitary Snufkin—a cast of unique characters embarking on delightful adventures. This techo cover brings that beloved world to life.

The entire cover is printed with an illustration from the novel Finn Family Moomintroll—a festive nighttime scene where Moominvalley’s residents have gathered for a grand party. Touches of gentle color soften the dark nighttime scene, giving it a soft, dreamlike quality. To capture the fine lines of the original artwork beautifully, we used a tightly woven polyester fabric.

The interior features a firework design from the upper part of the cover illustration. The right pocket shows Moomintroll and Snufkin sitting together on a bridge railing on a peaceful spring morning.

Inside the back pocket, you’ll find another scene. At Moomintroll’s request, a table full of delicious food is flying through the air toward Snufkin.

The bookmark string is topped with a white tassel, inspired by Moomintroll’s tail.

Pair it with the pencil board, which features another scene from Finn Family Moomintroll, for an extra touch of charm.

There are plenty of other Moomin items in the lineup, including stationery designed to match the cover.

About Moomin

Tove Jansson (1914-2001) was a Finnish-Swedish writer and artist, who achieved worldwide fame as the creator of the stories about the Moomins, written and illustrated between 1945 and 1977. The Moomin family and their friends live an adventurous life in the idyllic and peaceful Moominvalley in harmony with nature. They are a family of white and roundish trolls with large snouts.

Cover may contain variations in stitching or loose lining: Due to the structure of the cover that opens flat 180 degrees, exterior stitching areas may appear puckered and lining material may be loose.

Pen holder fits pens up to 13.5 mm wide: The pen holder is designed to fit the 12.2 mm (0.48") diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free Hobonichi Store Exclusive Bonus. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5 mm (0.53") in diameter.

Color and print may vary slightly: The cover's color and print pattern are created by dyeing or printing onto white fabric. While we take care to ensure consistency during production, slight variations in color or pattern may occur between individual items. This may also happen across a single cover, such as a pocket compared to the rest of the cover. Minor print blurring or uneven coloring may also be present. In addition, on rare occasions, there may be small black or white dots visible on the print. This is an unavoidable aspect of the manufacturing process.
