minä perhonen creates timeless, all-original garment textiles that are specially dyed, embroidered, and woven to recreate hand-drawn designs.

We’re pleased to bring back the piece, series for the 2024 spring lineup. These patchwork covers are assembled by hand using all the left-over pieces saved during the production of clothing.

The Weeks Spring Mix cover is a patchwork design that comes to life with the union of nine meticulously created textiles of various colors, fabrics, and styles.

The cover interior is made from cow leather in a calming pink beige color. It’s accented on the top left with a butterfly embroidery.

The pen hook is designed to hold a pen by its clip.

Each patch is cut from a different spot in the original textile and sewn into the patchwork by hand, giving every cover an entirely unique look. Due to the limited nature of the textile leftovers used in the patchwork, this cover is available through lottery sale.

Textiles used in piece, (Weeks Spring Mix)

1. forest diamond (2022-23 Autumn / Winter)

A design inspired by a mysterious tale from a dream which was then drawn into a crystal. The creatures that look like drawings you drew as a child add a humorous touch.

2. land puzzle (2013-14 Autumn / Winter)

Corduroy ridges form various patterns, with shadows and 3D effects making it look like a scene you’re looking down on from the sky.

3. tähti (2023 Spring / Summer)

The design looks like an accumulation of light in the night sky. The series of dots in velvet jacquard reminds us of blinking starlight.

4. swing camellia (2022-23 Autumn / Winter)

This design shows camellias that have an energetic yet dainty look blooming as if they’re dancing. The shades are embroidered underneath the color of the flowers, making it look like an oil painting.

5. tambourine (2000-01 Autumn / Winter)

Freehand-drawn circles are embroidered in dots that protrude from the fabric in this minä perhonen classic.

6. kaleidoscope (2011-12 Autumn / Winter)

This three-dimensional Jacquard velvet design explores the world of shapes as seen through a spinning kaleidoscope.

7. fogland (2007-08 Autumn / Winter)

This glossy Jacquard velvet textile has a beautiful sheen and depicts a winter forest engulfed in fog.

8. sunny yarn (2015 Spring / Summer)

Plaid patterns with colors that evoke the image of trees and grass are overlaid with sparkles of lights that shine through, using velvet jacquard.

9. pomppia (2023 Spring / Summer)

Rabbit faces drawn in diverse touches are portrayed as a continuous pattern. The design reminds us of the connections between living creatures and events of the world.

minä perhonen is a brand created by designer Akira Minagawa.
First founded in 1995 under the name minä, and renamed “minä perhonen” in 2003. In Finnish, “minä” means “I,” and “perhonen” means “butterfly,” expressing Minagawa’s hopes to create designs as light-hearted and beautiful as a butterfly’s flapping wings.

Four types available for this edition

The 2024 edition of minä perhonen comes in four designs; “anone-anone,” “symphony,” “light berry,” and “piece,.”

“anone-anone” is a unique textile with silhouettes of cats drawn in simple lines irregularly lined up. The longer you look at it, the more it looks like a pattern. There are many patterns with cat motifs, but the base fabric’s color and the cat’s abstract silhouette make it look chic.

I feel that “symphony” is a delicate and charming design, with some diamond shapes decorated with motifs such as animals and flowers. In contrast, others form different motifs by combining a series of semicircles and curves. You can enjoy different looks with different colorsーthe A6 size cover is embroidered with light gray thread on navy fabric, and the A5 size is embroidered with light blue thread on yellow fabric.

“light berry” has red berries embroidered on a green background. The small fruits embroidered in fine detail are typical of minä perhonen. It also has a neat look, rare for minä perhonen, with red embroidery on the green base. It is not too flashy, but very sharp.

The piece, for spring, features “pomppia” with rabbit faces in all techo covers, and the bright yellow resemble spring light. The inner covers are warm, pale colors such as pink and light blue. We hope you enjoy the tenderness that only the spring piece, can bring.
