minä perhonenpiece, (spring mix)A5 Size (fits Cousin)

minä perhonen creates all-original garment textiles that are specially dyed, embroidered and woven to recreate designs that were originally hand-drawn. "piece," patchwork covers are made with all the leftover pieces of textiles saved when creating clothing and handbags so they don't go to waste.

The A5 “spring mix” cover brings together 11 different textiles with a focus on yellow and blue color schemes. The designs contain plant and animal themes, as well as droplets and bobbins.

The bright blue interior and pen holders are made with cow leather, and the dotted lace bookmarks are pink and deep green.

Each fabric patch is cut from a different spot in the original textile and sewn into the patchwork by hand, giving every cover an entirely unique look. Due to the limited nature of the textile leftovers used in the patchwork, this cover is available through lottery sale. For more information, please see the About Lottery Sales section below.

Textiles used in piece, spring mix

    1. pair drops (2017 Summer / Spring)

These polka dots include 3D spheres and form a well-balanced and simple geometric pattern.

    2. fogland (2007-08 Autumn / Winter)

This Jacquard velvet textile depicts a forest engulfed in fog. The use of several different types of yarn allows a contrast between the fog and the thick trees.

    3. bobbin (2014 Spring / Summer)

A textile with bobbin-thread embroidery. The color scheme reflects that of the sea and sand.

    4. one day (2018-19 Autumn / Winter)

Reindeer roam among the trees in a vast forest in this textile that tells the story of a day in the forest.

    5. tambourine (2000-01 Autumn / Winter)

Freehand-drawn circles are embroidered in dots that protrude from the fabric in this minä perhonen classic.

    6. waterfall (2013-14 Autumn / Winter)

Strings of sparkles overlap and flow like a waterfall to create glittery new colors.

    7. giardino (2016-17 Autumn / Winter)

giardino is Italian for “garden.” The embroidered flowers appear to be dancing as they bloom.

    8. oasis (2006 Spring / Summer)

This design depicts horses on a cotton fabric. The original illustration featured pencil-drawn horses surrounded by blue dyed paper hand-crumpled and pasted around the them.

    9. meri (2014 Spring / Summer)

meri is Finnish for "ocean." This textile looks both like the sparkles of sunlight against waves and the early morning dew on the sandy beach.

    10. forest dot(2016 Spring / Summer)

This embroidered textile depicts spheres of trees and the shadows of their branches, all as viewed from overhead.

    11. land puzzle (2016-17 Autumn / Winter)

Corduroy ridges form various patterns, with shadows and 3D effects making it look like a scene you’re looking down on from the sky.

Stitching may be slightly curved or bumpy

Stitching may be slightly curved or bumpy as a result of sewing together materials of various thicknesses.
