This series of the Hobonichi Techo News is brought to you under the theme of "Why I chose this techo for 2024" where team members show the techos, covers and stationery they picked out for 2024.


And with that, let's jump into it! Here are my picks from the 2024 lineup!

So why these? Well, first of all, I'm currently using the MOTHER: Franklin Badge techo cover with the Original (Monday start) book.

I carry it around with me everywhere, just like the Franklin Badge in the MOTHER series, so the off-white material is starting to feel a little aged. But I love it, and was thinking about using the cover for another year. Then the MOTHER HON showed up!

When I heard that there was a MOTHER design coming out for the HON, and a big logo on the cover with a red and gold design based on the original Famicom game cartridge, I was taken back to the years I spent playing MOTHER when it first came out, and the excitement I felt when I was younger. I immediately knew my next techo choice was the A6 MOTHER: EarthBound Beginnings HON.

This year, I used my Original techo for both work and my personal life. But as I looked over the HON, I decided to dedicate this one to personal use and fill it to the brim with ideas and illustrations so I can use it with total freedom.

So that took care of my personal life, but how about a techo for work?

Since my 2023 cover was made of stout canvas material, it had a sense of familiarity to it. But because I'll be using my techo for work only in 2024, I wanted something that would let me write a lot in it while still being comfortable to carry around. So I chose the A5 Avec Cousin for work.

And when I looked for a simple, slim cover, I found the perfect match.

▲I also like how the subdued color of almond and the subdued light blue of my smartphone made for a yummy looking combo!

I picked the Taro Okamoto: Three Faces Weeks book separate from my Avec book so I could carry it around with me everywhere in a small bag. It'll be my companion for art-related entries. (Mainly for books I read, movies I watch, and art museums and exhibits I visit.)

Here's the stationery I picked out to help me enjoy these three techo books in 2024.



▲The ONE PIECE magazine: Square Letter Paper to Share Your Feelings Vol. 2 and Zebra Mildliner Calm Mild 5-Color Marker Set

When I'm especially busy, these letter papers have quotes from One Piece that are perfect for giving messages to people. I'm thinking I'll use these at home, especially among my family. We tend to have notes with only the bare minimum written on it, but these can help me further express my feelings while I'm at it.

The Mildliner Calm Mild 5-Color Marker Set is to give my pages a bit more color next year to make them more fun. My 2023 techo mostly only had red or black ink pens in it, so it looked pretty utilitarian.

This five-color set is going to look so nice and calming in my techo. The colors both look like they represent the four seasons in Japan and an array of tasty foods.

That was just a quick look at what I picked out for my 2024 techo, but here's another look at them all together...

This may have been a conscious decision or not on my part when picking out these products, but it turned out as a collection of wild adventures with MOTHER and Taro Okamoto and One Piece, coupled with a calming collection with the Have a Nice Day! cover and Calm Mild 5-Color Marker Set.

It makes sense! I'd love to make my Life (Book) both those things in 2024!

I'm sure the next team member will have yet another completely different lineup.

Hi everyone, I’m Nakamae from the techo team.

This series of the Hobonichi Techo News is brought to you under the theme of "This is why I chose this techo for 2024" where team members show the techos, covers and stationery they picked out for 2024.



Firstly, the techo I decided to use as my primary techo this year is the 5-Year Techo. Although I had long admired it, I couldn’t trust myself to continue using a single techo for 5 years without getting bored of it.

That is, I get bored really easily. Like, really. So it was hard to think that I would be able to continue to write in the same techo for 5 years straight.

However, I came up with an easy but good idea.

"All I have to do is change the cover every year!"

That made my heart spring. So, the cover I picked for the first year was Search & Collect.



I wonder what my year would be like spending it with my favorite herringbone pattern. What cover should I choose for the second year? I’m already so excited for the next 5 years.



I plan to write down daily events in the 5-Year Techo. On good days or anniversaries, I will use the Soeru Sticker to decorate.

Another cover I bought for personal use is the Weeks cover mina perhonen: light berry (Green). This isn’t mainstream, but I want to use it like the Drawer Pouch by using it with the Hobonichi Memo Pad Set and keeping sticky notes, bookmarks and cards inside.



I love to read, but whenever I’m out and about, I always find myself looking for bookmarks, sticky notes and memo pads to write down words that struck me. Which is why I thought of putting all of these in a compact Weeks cover.



This cover has an elegant and delicate look adorned with embroideries of red berries. I plan to keep it in my bag at all times.

Lastly, I chose the Weeks book Poppin’ Yellow to use at work. Don’t you think the name is cute? I am going to use it with the Linton: Vacances cover.



The bright yellow interior matches the color of Poppin’ Yellow. This techo is where I will write down important deadlines, memos taken during meetings and ideas. I wanted to use a bright color that will uplift my moods especially because it’s going to accompany me during work time.



This is my perfect lineup for next year!

We only have three months of 2023. With the season changing to autumn, I was feeling a little bit sentimental, but after picking my techo, it made me look forward to the upcoming year. I was eager to start using it, so I wrote down all the events I enjoyed this year, such as seeing cherry blossoms, going to see fireworks and going to beer gardens, in the bonus pages at the back of the book.

[This is why I chose this techo for 2024]

I long deliberated which one to go for...and decided to go for all of them!



Although I had taken a long time to make my decision, my lineup turned out to be quite simple. I would name it as black, red and blue!


Indigo Book (Sashiko) [A6 Original size cover]


Firstly, the cover I chose for the A6 size is the Indigo Book (Sashiko). The denim material was cool and I wanted to have it by myself every day.

I like the chic look the cover has, with the diamond-patterned sashiko fabric and the button carved with the Blue Blue emblem. (This techo cover was born from a creation with Blue Blue).



I already want to start using it, but since it's still 2023, I use this cover with the Hobonichi Plain Notebook! I use it to write down memos and to doodle. I often use it with the Press Man mechanical pencil.

I also stash Jin Kitamura's pencil board and translucent sticky notes in this cover too! It's too cute… (I actually had my eyes on Jin Kitamura's Weeks too...)



I love how the Blue Blue tag at the back is subtle but gives off a nice impression. Because it has a pocket on the back, I secretly keep a railway map in there. It's a secret item I use to stop my train-loving son from crying.


White Line: Black [Weeks book]


I also plan to use the Weeks because it's so easy to carry around. The reason why I chose the White Line series is



how soft the front cover is. I have been using a hardcover Weeks book for 2023, but often came across moments when I wanted to casually flip through my techo to check my schedule at a glance, so I feel the softcover type would be quite practical!



I currently use the Weeks to roughly write down important schedules and to doodle. I thought of matching the colors of the Pochitto6 ink and the Hi-Tec-C Coleto, but as far as this photo shows, it isn't exactly matching is it haha.


MOTHER: Earthbound Beginnings [HON A5 size]


Lastly, I picked out MOTHER: Earthbound Beginnings [HON / A5 size] from the HON series you can use without a cover. I fell in love with the bold design that looks like a Famicom box art of that era! (I actually don't know much about the game but bought it anyways).



The gold foil-pressing is so cool! It really looks like a book so I want to keep it in my bookshelf.




Currently, I use the A5 Cousin size techo touse at home and paste tickets and cards. I keep an origami wallet my son made for me alongside 1,000 yen, 40 yen and 9,000 yen notes my son created in the Anything Pocket. (I paste everything and anything in this techo so its thickness is getting out of hand already by October.)
I plan to switch this techo I use at home to the MOTHER HON in 2024. I wonder how it will become when it gets bulky!

For this series of the techo news where members write about various topics, we will be sharing techo, covers and stationery for 2024 and why.

However.
I have still yet to make up my mind for next year.



One thing I do know is that it's going to be one of the eight techo you see here.

For the Hobonichi Techo 2023, I chose the standard Weeks book for the first time in several years. The design I chose was Gurunpa's Kindergarten, in which I was in charge of writing the product detail pages for. It was a picture book I read over and over again as a child and couldn't resist.



However, I'd already used up 57 of the 71 memo pages at the back of the book by September.



I had the feeling that I would run out of memo pages by July, and so I started saving up space since then. However, it was a little stressful trying not to use up the memo pages knowing I don't have much left. I did try using it with the Hobonichi Memo Pad Set but I still prefer to have everything binded in a single book!

So, while there are lots of charming Weeks designs in 2024 too, I decided to go back to using the Weeks Mega. Looking at the lineup once again...



There are lots of great colors. I'm probably going for Sweet Apple that is easy to spot inside the bag or the refreshing Celeste Blue.

But when I asked staff members at Tobichi, they told me that Stylish Gray is really popular!

Hmm... I wonder which one I should choose. It looks like it's going to take a while until I finally make up my mind.

On the other hand, I have picked out some stationery already.

In September, I got my hands on KAWAISOUNI!'s Pen Case with Band. It's really practical because you can attach it to your Weeks book with an elastic band.



Two pens I recently bought and keep in this pen case are:



The Uni Ball One 0.38 and the Sarasa Nano 0.3 (Black) that a user told me goes really well with the Hobonichi Techo.



I split the left page of the Weeks book into three sections, but the subtleness of the Uni Ball One 0.38 in Nemophila Blue works great and I have been loving using it.

The “Hobonichi Techo News” is brought to you by members of the Hobonichi Techo team. This time, techo team members will share the techo, covers, and stationery they chose for 2024 under the title of “This is why I chose this techo for 2024.”

If you're still choosing which techo to go for, or are looking for stationery to accompany your techo, we hope this series will help you out!

I will be starting off this series, so without further ado, this is my lineup!



I lined up all the items I chose this time. Let me introduce each item to you.

Firstly, I chose the PAMM: Generous Interior Techo as my techo cover. There are three reasons as to why I chose this cover.

1. The silver foil-press on the front cover


The sparkly silver on the front of the PAMM cover caught my eye. I simply thought that the sparkliness would make me feel excited every day. I also like how the silver foil covers a large part of the front cover.

2. The pockets are also printed with shapes!


Open the techo to find shapes on the pocket too! On top of that, even these shapes are printed in silver! The shapes are all different and makes me think how well thought out it is. I like how these shapes peek out from the pockets.

3. The bookmark is wavy


Bookmarks are something that catches your eye often. The wavy design is cool and I know it will make me happy everytime I use this cover.

I plan to set it with the A6 size Avec like always and use it as a diary.

A new choice for me was the HON that appeared last year. I went for Tomitaro Makino's Yamazakura design.



I am going to use this techo for work. However, it's actually my first time using a page per day techo for work, as I had always opted for the combination of a Weeks book and a Hobonichi Plain Notebook. I've still yet to decide how to use the daily pages.

The reason why I still went for the HON is because I thought its smartness is perfect as a work techo. I will continue to think how I'd pair it with the Weeks (which I have still yet to buy).

I can't help but admire how beautiful the lines are in Dr. Makino's botanical illustrations. His exquisite illustrations match the simplicity of the HON. Just thinking that I can use this techo at the office makes me excited for next year.

Because the HON doesn't come with a pocket, I have already purchased the "Anything Pocket" that creates a pocket by simply sticking it on to temporarily keep small bits and pieces.

Other stationery that I have purchased are the Kanako Kagaya's Deco Rush "Familiar Sights" and the Pochitto6 "Animal Parade".



These are so fun to push and pull that I've already started using them. I think it's cute to push the same motif of the Pochitto6 multiple times.

I also chose Jin Kitamura's pencil board, Mildliner and Pulaman.



The pandas drawn by Kitamura are so adorable. Additionally, I added the Mildliner and the Pulaman to the lineup. I'm not sure if I'd be able to use them well, but new stationery excites you doesn't it!

I'm currently in New York!

We will be hosting a "secret" event at Yoseka Stationery starting from the 18th. I have already visited the Yoseka Store and made preparations for the event.

My favorites are the “butterfly-stopper” pen holders!


Do you know what they are?

The “butterfly-stopper” pen holders act as a hinge, keeping the cover safely shut while you store a pen inside.

That’s right. These pen holders are the “butterfly-stoppers.”


I was impressed when I first saw them. Until then, I always struggled with keeping my planner closed and carrying a pen with it, and I finally decided to buy a rubber band and pen holder after wondering for several years. The problem was that the pen holder had to be clipped on the planner, and it left a mark on the cover. There was always something that I worried about.

That was when I knew about the “butterfly-stopper” pen holders. Imagine how thrilled I was!

Look, the cover that flaps open…


closes when you insert a pen!


It will not open even if I try!


It serves two purposes: carrying a pen and closing the cover!

The other way around is easy, too. You quickly pull out the pen,


and write straightaway!


I hope you now know how wonderful the “butterfly-stopper” pen holders are.

The Hobonichi Techo has a lot of other charms, such as a wide variety of designs, so you can choose the one that fits your mood of the year or the moment; the many pockets that allow you to carry all sorts of stuff from small things to important notes; and the bookmarks in a different design that fit each cover. All of those features are so lovable.

Hello, I’m Shimada from the Techo team.

For this series of “What I love about the Hobonichi Techo,” I would like to share some stuff about the paper.


As many of you might already know, the features of the “Tomoe River” paper used for the Hobonichi Techo include:

“Resistant to ink bleed”
“Thin but durable”
“Easy ink transfer”



I still remember when I first picked up the Hobonichi Techo, what struck me most was the texture of the paper.


It’s thin but firm with a crispy feel that I’ve never felt before. I thought it was kind of similar to the Japanese “Kaishi” paper. (Although this is just my personal opinion)


I don’t know why but the touch of it makes me want to fold it, and I ended up dog-earing the pages.



We will be starting to use new Tomoe River paper for the 2024 version techo.



The techo will be useful as they have been, and we hope you to enjoy them further on.

Hello, I’m Shiori from the Techo team. In this series of Hobonichi Techo News, we introduce what we love about the Hobonichi Techo. It is fun to know the team members’ favorites since I haven’t really heard about it from them before.

My number-one is the design of the techo book; I especially adore the colors. The colors and fineness of the grid lines are exquisite and not too assertive, but have enough presence for you to use them as you like. Let's take the “Secret Line” that I use to separate the page as an example.

I felt like making the left-side area a little bit smaller and decided to shift the line to the left.


The grid lines are modest, so it looks natural even if I draw a new line next to the Secret Line (although I eventually changed it back afterward). The best thing is that all twelve months have differently colored lines, all of which are very calming colors.

This delicate use of color is what I like the most.

I keep a diary in my April-start version techo every year, and this year I started using the Weeks book instead of the Original book.

The Opanchu Usagi Weeks book is what I use

The 2-dot timeline on the weekly pages is so convenient!


They make it easy to understand my schedule especially when I move around during the day. It depends on my mood and timetable whether or not I split the dayーsometimes I feel like writing what happened, without splitting it.

Hi, I’m Iwasawa from the Techo team.

The “Hobonichi Techo News” is brought to you by members of the Hobonichi Techo team. For this series, we share what we love about the Hobonichi Techo.

My favorite part of the Hobonichi Techo is the “180-degree lay-flat binding!”
The way it flops open is so pleasant.

This feature is so plain and unphotogenic, but something I wish all books like novels and essays had. I have always been delighted with how the Hobonichi Techo lays flat when it’s open.

I’ve had a hard time writing on notebooks like ring binder notebooks with bumpy spines, since some parts of the pages are easy to write on while other parts are hard to write on, and the writing becomes disorganized. Writing while holding the notebook with my hand would make it better, but that feels a bit troublesome. This small problem felt quite stressful to me.

What’s good about the Hobonichi Techo is that although it is thick, it can still be easily opened 180 degrees, making it easy to write on. I also like the fact that I can keep it open without having to hold it down with my hand, which makes it easy to write and also easy to read what I have written.

As a Weeks book user, I start my work days by checking the day’s to-dos in my techo and keep the techo open while I work.

The techo is always there next to my computer

I can go through the schedule of my week to find out what work I should do first, or organize some drafts looking at the notes of my ideas. It makes it convenient to do things while taking a look at the techo.

I’m also pleased with how the techo becomes easier to open as I use it, and I feel like it’s becoming the techo of my own.
