Although it’s been over 30 years since the first MOTHER game was released, Shigesato Itoi’s RPG series continues to be passionately supported all over the world.
The games’ lasting appeal comes from their scripts. Shigesato Itoi was a copywriter when he began the series, and his fiercely unique personality shone through in the words he chose in these stories of young kids on adventures. All three scripts have moved the hearts of generations of players, and all of them have been reproduced in the pages of this set of books.
A slipcase box holds this three-book set, which includes MOTHER (1989), MOTHER 2 (1994), and MOTHER 3 (2006).
As you turn the pages you’ll relive the adventures of the protagonists, and along the way you’ll relive your own memories as well. These books are for all those who still remember MOTHER. For all those who won’t ever forget MOTHER. They’re meant to stay by your side as a companion.

We set out to make a book that contained each and every line in every one of the MOTHER games.
The books contain all the lines that appear in the series, including character dialogue, system and menu text, enemy actions, item descriptions, and more.
Any MOTHER fan knows that yes-or-no questions are frequently featured in the dialogue, with special responses depending on which answer you choose. These books contain the text for all possible choices, of course. The games contain an incredible amount of text—more than could be discovered in a single playthrough. Even players who have gone through the game countless times are sure to find something new.

It’s simple enough for us to check for things like spelling errors, but when it comes time to see if the manuscript matches the text in the game, the only way to be certain was to actually refer to the book manuscripts while playing through the games.
So in Summer 2020, we put out a call to MOTHER fans to gather a large team of people to help us do that playthrough check.

This unprecedented call brought us an incredible 2,373 volunteers. We chose about 120 people from within that group to spend about a month (plus some extra time right before production) playing through the game and making sure the script we had drafted into the book manuscript matched what they played. We’re indebted to everyone on the team who performed that playthrough check, as well as everyone else who supported us along the way. Thank you so much.

Four years after its initial release, MOTHER: The Complete Scripts has now reached its second printing.

This three-book set spanning the entire script of the MOTHER trilogy of RPGs was such an unprecedented project that we thought we’d only ever have one opportunity to offer it, which led us to produce a large first printing. We’re thrilled to say that fans have shown up for the project, and four years after that first run, we’re pleased to be able to offer a second printing.

Some corrections to the first edition have been made for this second printing. We have also needed to raise the price to 9,460 yen (tax incl.) due to cost increases over the past four years.

For every MOTHER: The Complete Scripts you purchase at a Hobonichi Store (the online store, Hobo Nichiyoubi in Shibuya Parco, or Tobichi Kyoto), you’ll receive a special bonus: a MOTHER Sticker Book. The sticker book comes with 8 sticker sheets filled with stickers that are reusable, so you can play with the 8 included backgrounds. It’s a lot of fun! And very cute.

The 3-book set comes in its own slipcase box, but to protect the product, we’ve packed it into its own cardboard box as well. It was only fitting that the final delivery comes via Escargo Express, so we’ve made a special Escargo Express box to keep the slipcase safe. Bookstores will probably be selling these book sets in this box, so be sure to look out for this white box instead of the red slipcase when you’re out shopping.
Because it’s designed primarily to protect the books and their slipcase, please understand that there may be some scuffs on your Escargo Express box. Because it’s pressed directly against the slipcase, however, orders placed through the online Hobonichi Store will be placed inside yet another shipping box for added protection.
