This cover is brought to you by Tenp (meaning “many cloths”), a textile brand designed by illustrator Toshiyuki Fukuda and constructed by Sashiko Weave artisan Kenichi Ohazama from Date Fukushima, the last person in the world carrying on this artistic tradition.
Sashiko is a traditional handicraft technique famous in the Tohoku region in Japan. Textiles are meticulously created stitch-by-stitch in a methodical pattern, woven with a technique called Sashiko Ori. Even with the use of a machine, an hour of weaving will only produce about a yard of textile. The careful arrangement of intersecting threads allows the textile to retain the distinct feel of Sashiko while producing an elaborate, beautiful design.
Toshiyuki Fukuda based this particular design on the forest—look closely at its unique pattern and you can make out the image of trees. The Original A6-size cover uses navy and beige threads for a classic color combination, complete with invigorating white faux leather in the interior and pen holders. Not only does this special cover feel nice to the touch, no two covers are the same as the design is placed in a different orientation every time.

- All covers are hand-made and may contain slight variances
Each and every cover is individually sewn by a factory worker hand-operating a sewing machine. Best efforts are made to ensure consistent sizes and specifications, but as these products are hand-made, covers are not made as exact copies.
- Sashiko Ori pattern is different on every cover
The woven material used in these covers is completely used up as not to waste any material, so the alignment of the pattern is different on each cover. Please note that your cover may look somewhat different than the example photo on the product page.
- Weave and textured material may fray
The woven threads on the material protrude from the fabric, so threads may fray if they catch on sharp objects or are tugged too strongly. Please handle with care.
- Color fading
Please avoid rubbing or wetting your cover as the colors may fade.
- New covers are slightly rigid before use
Depending on the material of your cover, it may be slightly rigid upon arrival. You may have a slightly difficult time inserting your planner or closing the cover, but when you use the cover as usual, it will naturally break in and grow comfortable over time.
- Sliding no-slip pens into the pen holder
Hobonichi Techo covers come with pen holders that keep the pages shut. Depending on the material of the cover, pens with rubber grips may be difficult to slide into the holder.
- Maximum pen width for pen holder
The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free bonus gift with select Hobonichi Web Shop products. Pens with a greater diameter than 12 mm may not fit properly in the holder.
- Avoid using with Cover on Cover
