Which ones did everyone pick? Hobonichi Techo 2019 Sales Ranking

With the end of the year approaching, many of you have just started thinking about buying a new planner for 2019. To help you browse our lineup, we’ve compiled the latest sales rankings for the Hobonichi Techo 2019 lineup through the Hobonichi Techo Official Store. (Calculations from Sep 1 to Oct 26, 2018)

Hobonichi Techo A6 Planner/Original

Doraemon’s cute smile helped the “I am Doraemon” cover dominate the A6-size techo lineup. The whole Doraemon lineup was a big hit, with the “Nobita and Shizuka” cover coming in at #6. The Colors series, a perennial favorite, also filled the chart this year, with “Sugar Rose” and “Very Berry” doing particularly well.

In third place is Ryoji Arai’s “I forgot when it was, but we sure had fun,” and in fifth place is the “Souvenir Alaska” cover, based on a vintage handkerchief. Between the two A6 Mother 2 covers, the Pixel Patterns design won out by a slim margin. Just off our list, in 11th place, was the Shakespeare cover, with its charming classical look.

Hobonichi Techo A5 Cousin

The Colors series for the larger A5 Cousin size has had an amazing showing, taking all four top spots in this year’s lineup. Most people connected with the color scheme of the “Peach Sky” cover, which came in first place. Next were the “Black x Sky Blue” cover, which fits well in any setting, the refreshing “Dolphin Blue” cover, and the cute yellow “Mimosa” cover. We imagine many customers chose the Colors series covers to match with an illustrated Cover on Cover.

The most popular A5 illustrated cover was “Alphabet Maze” from the popular Can You See What I See? book series. The gorgeous and exotic Liberty London Fabrics cover also made the ranks, as well as the minä perhonen series, which offers a completely unique feel for every individual cover. The cute and carefree Pastel Stripes (Light Gray) cover was also a hit this year.

Hobonichi Techo Weeks

The Weeks is the Hobonichi Techo weekly book that’s light and portable, and this year’s most popular Weeks designs were colorful and playful patterns. The most popular was “Cactus,” one of the Bow & Tie books that use the same smooth, textured material as neckties. Other popular Bow & Tie series books were “Sunday Best Teddy” and “Boar Piglets.”

In our 2019 lineup, pink covers seemed more popular than they’ve been in years past; this year’s winning Weeks Colors cover was “Strawberry Latte.” The “Honwaka Pappa Doraemon” and Mother 2 “Drink coffee before go?” collaboration covers made the top rankings as well. The “Yamazakura” book, featuring Tomitaro Makino’s illustrated diagram, was a big hit, with many customers telling us the design was exactly what they’ve been looking for.

Accessories (Hobonichi Originals)

These accessories and stationery, sized to fit and compatible with the techo’s materials, were specially designed to be used alongside the Hobonichi Techo. The lineup includes many convenient items that users find fit perfectly with the way they use their techos.

The top three items in this year’s Accessories ranking are the Cover on Cover and Clear Cover series, which protects techo covers and keeps them clean, and the Hobonichi Pencil Board, which provides a sturdy writing surface under any page. The Mother 2-themed pencil board was also a big hit.

The Hobonichi Index Stickers, which make it easy to open directly to designated pages, and the Anything Pocket (Clear), which provides a secret little pocket in your techo pages, both made it onto the rankings in their first year in the lineup. (The Hobonichi Techo Stamps also debuted this year and came in at #11.) Although the Shinsuke Yoshitake “Plans More Important Than Work” Stickers were a 2018 item, their continued sales through the 2019 edition store were enough to put them on the rankings! Finally, the Hobonichi Weekly Calendar also quietly took its place on the rankings. It’s been one of our best-selling products for over 10 years.

Other Accessories

In addition to Hobonichi’s own brand of stationery and accessories, the Hobonichi Techo Official Store also provides a broad lineup of products carefully curated by the Hobonichi staff for their compatibility with the Hobonichi Techo. Here’s the sales ranking for these third-party accessories, with the Jetstream Pen Refill controlling the #1 slot as it does every year. Many users also purchased the annual official guidebook, which was redesigned this year, alongside their Hobonichi Techo. This year, the Doraemon Action Ballpoint Pen and Washida Daigaku Washi Stickers were offered through our store for the first time, and they immediately made the ranking.

We also offer a variety of unique items for sale through the Hobonichi Techo Official Store, such as the returning Perforation Cutter, which creates a perforation line on one page at a time, the AquaPit Glue Pen, which dispenses glue from a traditional ball-point pen, and the Pocket Secretary, a thin and compact pair of scissors that can fit into a techo cover pocket. You can see these popular items and more through our Accessories page, and we encourage you to come check it out.
