Feels great to give, feels great to get
Hobonichi 5-Year Techo Gift Set - Bloom

This white box almost looks as if it could have a little cake inside. The foil-pressed logo on the lid sparkles in the light.

Undo the sky blue ribbon and open the box and you’ll see an intricate pattern with blue pansies and bumblebees. Peeking out from under a flower petal-shaped card is the embroidered techo cover.

Here is a list of contents inside the box:
-Hobonichi 5-Year Techo cover
-Pencil board
-1 custom card
-Hobonichi 5-Year Techo book

The name of this box set is the Hobonichi 5-Year Techo Gift Set - Bloom

Gifting is a major part of the 5-Year Techo.

When we released the Hobonichi 5-Year Techo last year, we received an overwhelming number of messages from customers who said they’ve bought the 5-Year Techo as a gift for someone.

Oftentimes, people purchased the book as a gift for their mother, grandfather, friends, children, or even as a gift to themselves.

It’s so beautiful how giving the 5-Year Techo to someone carries the message of “we wish you great health for the next five years” and “we hope the times ahead are wonderful.” The Hobonichi 5-Year Techo Gift Set was created on the idea of making people happy, which is why it makes such a wonderful present to those precious to you.

The set is modeled after the excitement of a treasure chest.

Our focus was on creating something that made others happy, which brought us to think of a treasure chest. The box is beautiful enough to fill the hearts of both the giver and receiver with excitement and anticipation at the amazing contents packed inside.

The rough sketch of the product aimed to capture that sense of anticipation as the recipient wonders what’s inside and what it will look like.

Brainstorming around the theme of a tree

We knew we wanted to work with potter and artist Makoto Kagoshima for the main graphic that would serve as the centerpoint of the gift set. Here’s the message we initially sent him.

“We’re interested in making a tree the theme of the design. We’d love to see your rendition of a tree that grows large over time, blooming flowers, and birds gathering there. We would turn this into a textile and have the graphic serve as the main logo for the item.”

Upon receiving this request, Makoto Kagoshima designed a logo with three birds gathered around flowers. Look closely, and you’ll see every bird and flower has a different expression.

This graphic has been embroidered onto the linen cover with 8 different colors of thread and silver foil-pressed onto the box and enclosed card.

The other design we received is the beautiful pattern with blue pansies and bumblebees, which is featured on the inside of the box and on the pencil board. It’s a wonderful feeling to have this pattern catch your eye every time you open the box or place the pencil board into your book.

The name “Bloom”

As the product design neared completion, we settled on the name “Bloom.” Just as a plant sprouts buds, adds leaves, blooms flowers, and grows fruit, this product expresses the wish for its receiver to have a fruitful and fulfilling five years ahead. The set is perfect not only for giving to others, but for treating yourself.
