With this A5-size techo, you can keep five years of records all in one place. The cover is wrapped in a calm, warm brown with gold foil-pressed accents. Like a dictionary, the material feels natural in your hands, so it’s perfectly comfortable to use without a cover. It also comes with a dark brown ribbon bookmark.
The pages feature the same 3.7 mm grid as the Hobonichi Techo Cousin, making the techo just as easy to write or draw in. The paper is a muted cream color, and the grid is printed in a light charcoal gray so that your own writing stands out clearly on the page.
The left side of each two-page spread only shows the date and the corresponding day of the week for each of the five years, leaving the rest of the space completely free for you to use as you wish. Each day, you have 352 grid squares to fill — and because this is the “large” version of the 5-Year Techo, there’s plenty of room to write down everything that happens. (Public holidays and the traditional lunar calendar dates are not marked.)
The right-hand page is free space. You can use it for anything that didn’t fit on the left page, notes you want to refer back to across different years, or things you’d like to paste in.
At the bottom of each page, you’ll find Daily Quotes, which are carefully selected from past content on the Hobonichi website.
Thanks to the thread-stitched binding, the techo opens flat at 180 degrees and stays that way — no need to hold the pages down.
The pages are made of thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper that holds ink well, providing a smooth writing experience.

The start of the book contains a yearly calendar across the 5-year span. The back of the book contains useful pages such as “A Year Per Page” memo pages for yearly reflections, “Gifts” for tracking gifts given and received, “Addresses” to list important contact information, “My Lists” for making a list of any theme of your choice, “My Favorite Things” to write down your favorite things by answering questions, and “Personal Notes” to record information about yourself. (These pages are in Japanese.)
The Large Hobonichi 5-Year Techo comes in a turquoise blue paper box. Inside, you’ll also find an instruction booklet and a test-writing sheet so you can check how different pens feel on the paper and whether ink bleeds through.
We also offer a dedicated techo cover designed to fit the Large Hobonichi 5-Year Techo (A5 size). Please note that covers made for the Hobonichi Techo Cousin are not compatible.

The Tomoe River paper designed for planners is known for its thinness and smooth writing surface. However, depending on the type and amount of ink or pen used—as well as environmental conditions—some ink may bleed through or take longer to dry. We recommend testing your pens on an inconspicuous area first, or using a pencil board or blotting paper for best results.
