This is the English-language edition of the Hobonichi Techo Cousin, a one-page-per-day techo in A5 size.
Like the Japanese edition of the Cousin, the techo provides one page per day for you to write schedules, journal entries, and notes; paste in tickets and photos; sketch; and much more. The ample space of the Cousin’s daily pages makes it especially easy to use for compiling all your work notes into one book, keeping a parenting diary, or creating a shared journal with someone. Many also use it as a “desk techo” — one that they keep at home or at the office rather than carry around.
The page design is based on a 3.7 mm grid layout, refined through countless adjustments over the years. It’s ideal for writing neat schedules and text, and comes in handy whenever you want to sketch diagrams or illustrations. Just like the Japanese-language edition of the Cousin, each month is printed in a different color.
On each spread of daily pages, you’ll find Daily Quotes in English, which are carefully selected from content on the Hobonichi website. This makes the techo a pleasure to read through as well as write in.
You’ll also find vertical Weekly Pages that are unique to the Hobonichi Techo Cousin. Writing your plans along a vertical timeline makes it easy to manage your schedule on a week-by-week basis.
Thanks to the thread-stitched binding, the techo opens flat at 180 degrees and stays that way — no need to hold the pages down.
The pages are made of thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper that holds ink well, providing a smooth writing experience.

The back of the techo contains bonus pages, including standard favorites such as Favorites, My 100, and the 365 Days Check-Off Sheet, as well as new additions like Phrases to Break That Writer’s Block, Hard-to-Translate Japanese Words, and the Hobonichi’s Neighborhood: Kanda/Jinbo-cho Map, among others.
The Hobonichi Techo is designed to be used with a cover. We offer a wide range of dedicated techo covers to choose from. Explore the different colors, materials, and designs to find your perfect match.

The Tomoe River paper designed for planners is known for its thinness and smooth writing surface. However, depending on the type and amount of ink or pen used—as well as environmental conditions—some ink may bleed through or take longer to dry. We recommend testing your pens on an inconspicuous area first, or using a pencil board or blotting paper for best results.
