HobonichiMOTHER Notebook

A MOTHER notebook might be so desirable because MOTHER is a game series that greatly values the concept of memories.

The first installment of MOTHER, for example, has eight melodies that the character learns as the game goes on. MOTHER 2 has the Camera Man, a self-proclaimed photographic genius, who appears and says, “Okay, get ready for an instant memory!” MOTHER 3 has Save Frogs who say, “If you don't take care to preserve your memories, you'll forget them.”

The MOTHER series is filled with references to memory: the Forgotten Man, the department store mouse’s deja vu, the Hall of Memories, Duster’s memories in the Egg of Light, Queen Mary’s songs, the words scrolling along Lumine Hall, the melted snowman you meet again in Magicant, the scene with the rocking cradle.

We’ve made this notebook to hold the everyday precious memories of people who love MOTHER, and given it the straightforward name of “MOTHER Notebook.”

The cover is bound in a luxurious fabric. It feels nice to the touch and has rounded corners. We made the decision to make the cover dark blue rather than red. Instead, the elastic band that holds the book closed is red to keep that iconic part of the series. The logo is foil-pressed in silver. Overall, the notebook is not too flashy, so you can even use it at the office.

The notebook pages are blank to make it easier to write words and draw pictures freely. But wait, doesn’t a blank page make it hard to write straight? Never fear. This notebook comes with a pencil board printed with horizontal lines and a grid pattern so you can see the outline behind each piece of paper. Using these lines as a guide, you can write with the same feel as a notebook with printed lines or grid patterns.

The notebook size is 188 mm x 145 mm (7.4” x 5.7”), which is roughly between the size of a notebook and a sketchbook. This allows everyone to use the notebook for any purpose they’d like. The greatest feature of the MOTHER Notebook is probably the bottom of the right page, which features memorable, curated quotes in Japanese from the MOTHER series! Some lines will be familiar to all fans of the series, while others are rather unique quotes that will put a smile on your face. As you use your notebook each day, we’re sure you’ll start looking forward to picking up the notebook again and reading the quotes on the next pages.

As many of you have probably noticed, the quotes on the bottom of the pages is part of the DNA of the Hobonichi Techo, which was introduced in 2001 and has been highly popular for the last 20 years. Another Hobonichi Techo feature of the book is the lay-flat thread binding. And although this is a notebook, it contains an attached bookmark so you can use the book as a techo or a journal.

The MOTHER Notebook allows each person to write freely and store their precious memories. The MOTHER series has a famous slogan, “No crying until the end.” We’d love for you to use this notebook up until the very last page, the ending.

    Please Read Before You Buy

In order to provide you with the most satisfaction for your product, we've compiled a list of warnings, potential issues, and tips to keep in mind for this particular product. Please be sure to read this information carefully before placing your order.

    Paper used in the notebook

This notebook uses woodfree uncoated paper, which is different from the paper used in the Hobonichi Techo.

Fountain pens and water-based Ink may bleed through paper

When using fountain pens or pens with water-based ink, the ink may bleed through the paper, or may be difficult to dry. When using a new pen, we recommend testing it in an inconspicuous spot first.

    Coloring may stain other objects

The dye in the cover may stain clothing fabrics or other objects if it rubs against or sticks to them, especially if the cover is wet from water or sweat from your hands.

    About the foil-pressing

The logo is stamped onto the cover in metallic leaf, so strong rubbing or everyday use may cause it to peel off.

Avoid storing in hot and humid places

Please avoid storing your product in hot, humid places or placing it atop other objects for long periods of time as this may result in lower quality and color stains.
