Postcard Set - Shibata Zeshin Album (Set of 5)

Shibata Zeshin was a lacquer artist and painter from the late Edo period into the middle of the Meiji era. This set of 5 postcards features artwork selected from his famous Tairyukyo Gafu collection. It includes two designs featured on techo covers this year: “Small White Butterfly” on an A6 size techo cover, and “Plate of Confectionaries” on a Weeks book.

Benrido, a printing company that specializes in faithfully reproducing fine art, has created this postcard set from Shibata Zeshin’s Tairyukyo Gafu collection owned by the Tokyo National Museum. You can see every detail in the coloring and lines as they originally appeared in the historical artwork.

In addition to Small White Butterfly and Plate of Confectionaries, the collection includes the pieces Cherry Blossom, Camellia, and Magnolia, each representative of the seasons throughout the year. We recommend decorating your desk with the postcards or tucking them into your techo so you can thoroughly enjoy Shibata Zeshin's incredible brushwork, use of color, and composition.
