Mother 2Third Sanctuary (Milky Well)A6 Size (fits Planner and Original)

Mother (EarthBound in North America) is a video game series created by Shigesato Itoi and released in 1994. After years of successful Hobonichi Techo cover designs, the series makes its return to the lineup in 2019.

This techo cover design is unlike any we’ve done before. It features a photograph of the first three heroes of the game, Ness, Paula and Jeff, standing before the Third Sanctuary (Milky Well) along their journey.

Fans who have played the game back when it first came out may recognize the figurines of the heroes. These famous and precious figurines were used in the photography of the official guidebook originally included with the game. Now, twenty years later, they make their comeback on a Hobonichi Techo cover.

You can see on the cover the way the figurines have been painstakingly created from all angles.

Photographer Machiko Odan took the pictures for the cover print, and the Milky Well background was lovingly created by stylists Maiko Akiyama and Yuta Akiyama to back up the quality of the original figurines.

After making your way through a dark cave and defeating the Trillionage Sprout, our heroes arrive at the Milky Well. This is the third “Your Sanctuary.”

Ness thought he heard his mother from far away...
She said “Be a thoughtful, strong boy...”

Along with the other Mother 2 covers in the 2019 series, Third Sanctuary (Milky Well) comes with a mini envelope. When fighting enemies in the game, your character will occasionally strike a critical hit, and the word “SMAAAASH!!” appears on the screen. The iconic graphic is printed on these small envelopes, with blue on the front and yellow on the back. We hope you can find a use for these in a special situation!

      Please Read Before You Buy

In order to provide you with the most satisfaction for your product, we've compiled a list of warnings, potential issues, and tips to keep in mind for this particular product. Please be sure to read this information carefully before placing your order.

Actual specifications may vary from listing

Each item is individually assembled and sewn by hand by a factory worker. Best efforts are made to ensure consistent sizes and specifications, but there may be slight differences.

Color and print may vary slightly

This material is first printed or dyed and then later sewn onto the cover. While colors are designed to be consistent, there may be uneven coloring or slight shade variances between covers. This may also happen across a single cover, such as a pocket compared to the rest of the cover. In addition, on rare occasions, there may be small black or white dots visible on the print. This is an unavoidable aspect of the manufacturing process.

Cover may contain variations in stitching or loose lining

When this cover is open flat, exterior stitching areas may appear puckered and lining material may be loose.

      White spots around stitching

Due to the characteristics of the print and product material, the sewing process may expose the white of the original material around the stitches.

Silk printed image may peel off over time

The silk print may eventually peel or come off with daily use.

Outer pocket pattern may not align perfectly

The outer pocket is designed to align with the pattern beneath it, but pattern alignments may be imperfect due to the manual production process.

Pen holders are rigid at first

The pen holders are rigid at first, making it difficult to insert pens. You can speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the pen holders in your hand.

Pen holder fits pens up to 13.5 mm wide

The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2 mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free bonus gift with select Japanese-version Hobonichi Web Shop products. Pens with certain shapes and materials may be difficult to pull through the holder. The holder can fit pens up to 13.5 mm (0.53”) in diameter.

Avoid storing in hot and humid places

Please avoid storing your product in hot, humid places or placing it atop other objects for long periods of time as this may result in lower quality and color stains.
