Mother (EarthBound in North America) is a video game series created by Shigesato Itoi, and after years of successful Hobonichi Techo cover designs, the series makes its return to the lineup in 2018. This year’s Mother covers include the leather cover Mr. Saturn (Ninja, Bird-Fishing, Ladder), This is Magicant, and the Weeks book Magicant Map.



Magicant portrays the world inside the mind of the main character Ness near the end of the game. In this cover depicting the map of Magicant, you can see Ness’s mom, his sister Tracy, and naked Ness. The year 2018 is imprinted in white.

The back of the cover features many other characters, including Ness as a young boy, the snowman, Pokey, and his friends. The book spine has the cave-like pink pattern featured deep within Magicant. The endpaper in the book is printed with the Mother 2 logo.

You can use this book to turn your Hobonichi Techo into your own Magicant, filling it with your own memories, sketches, and other personal musings.



Included free with this cover is a Mr. Saturn notepad. The notepad is in the traditional Japanese vertical style, with a color Mr. Saturn on the cover and monochrome Mr. Saturn on the pages. Written in the corner is the phrase, “Write so many.”

Included with the Hobonichi Techo Weeks is a clear, adhesive pocket you can affix to the inside of your cover, and a mini version of the Hobonichi Japan Railway Map 2018, which condenses maps of Japan’s major city railway maps into a single fold-out paper.
