World Folk Patterns World Folk Patterns Windows of Mykonos

Designer Masako Kusakabe of the Taku Satoh Design Office creates our World Folk Patterns series, which is based on the traditional patterns and regional landscapes of locations all over the world. The motif of this year's Spring edition cover is the Greek island of Mykonos in the Aegean Sea.

The cover is an impression of the typical Mykonos townscape. The exterior of the cover is made of canvas coated in white to evoke the imagery of the white-plaster houses; various tinted shapes suggest the colorful windows which highlight the island’s architecture. The bright blue of the glass beads on the end of the bookmarks and on the inside of the cover is reminiscent of the Aegean Sea. A Mediterranean breeze refreshes the user every time it’s opened.

Important information

Colors on the screen may differ from actual product
Actual products are featured in all posted photographs, but please note that colors may vary slightly from how it appears on your computer monitor.
All covers are hand-made and may contain slight variances
Each and every cover is individually sewn by a factory worker hand-operating a sewing machine. Best efforts are made to ensure consistent sizes and specifications, but as these products are hand-made, covers are not made as exact copies.
About the print design
The design is printed onto the cover using an ink-jet printer. The ink may fade or peel due to prolonged use or rubbing too strongly. The ink may smell strongly at first, but keeping the cover in a well-ventilated area will air out the print and lessen the smell.
Seams may be uneven
The cover uses thick cotton that meets and overlaps around the edges and in some areas,, which may result in wrinkles and uneven seams.
Cracks in the design print
The outer edges of the cover are folded over and sewn on the inside. This fold pulling at the fabric may cause the print on this area to crack.
Pattern does not line up across pocket
The pattern on the outer back pocket is not designed to align with the rest of the cover.
About the beads and bookmark
Please handle the bookmark gently; the glass beads may break if hit too forcefully. The beads are each made individually by hand, so the shape may vary slightly.
Avoid using with Cover on Cover
This cover uses thicker materials than usual, so it may not fit.
Forcing it into a Cover on Cover may damage the products.
New covers are slightly rigid before use
Depending on the material of your cover, it may be slightly rigid upon arrival. You may have a slightly difficult time inserting your planner or closing the cover, but when you use the cover as usual, it will naturally break in and grow comfortable over time.
Light-colored covers show dirt more easily
A cover inevitably becomes dirty when carrying it around and using it daily, and light-colored covers show this more easily. If you feel the surface of your cover has become dirty, we recommend dabbing the cover with a clean cloth dampened with diluted neutral detergent. Please do not use any kind of dryer on the material, as it may shrink, and air-dry it indoors or in the shade.
Inserting your planner into your cover
When inserting your planner book into your cover, it will be easier to begin by sliding the left side of the book into the left pocket, and then inserting the right side.
Pen holder (“butterfly clasp”)
Hobonichi Techo covers come with pen holders that keep the pages shut. This holder may be rigid upon initial use, making pen insertion slightly difficult, but kneading the pen holder open will make it easier to use.
Depending on the material of the cover, pens with rubber grips may be difficult to slide into the holder.
Using fountain pens
Writing on the planner’s Tomoe River paper with a fountain pen may result in ink bleeds or transfers from wet ink.
When using water-based inks, we recommend testing the pen on an inconspicuous place in the book before using.
