Good-Bye Penguin is a 1976 children’s book written by Shigesato Itoi and illustrated by Teruhiko Yumura. This year we’ve featured this charming picture book on a Hobonichi Techo cover.
Naptime pictures the main character, a penguin, on both the front and the back of this Weeks book. On the front, the penguin is laying down with his head on his hand and taking a nap. On the back, the penguin is parachuting out of an airplane. The cover has been created with a glossy surface to most clearly depict the illustration, and the year 2018 is stamped in silver.
Just as the penguin in the story takes detours, gets lost, and meets all kinds of personalities in the adventure-filled journey, we’d love for this book to accompany users who seek out that same adventure.
Included with the Hobonichi Techo Weeks is a clear, adhesive pocket you can affix to the inside of your cover, and a mini version of the Hobonichi Japan Railway Map 2018, which condenses maps of Japan’s major city railway maps into a single fold-out paper.

- Test fountain pens before regular use
The Hobonichi Techo's Tomoe River paper is designed to prevent bleed-through, but some fountain pens and water-based ink pens are not compatible with this paper. When switching to a new pen, we recommend testing the pen somewhere in the book, such as the back memo pages, to see if the ink bleeds through or takes an especially long time to dry.
- Keep away from moisture and humidity
This cover uses paper products, so please keep it away from moisture and humidity as it may result in distortion or tears.
- Not for use with Clear Cover
The PP coated surface of this cover makes it incompatible with the PVC plastic Clear Cover. The products may become warped or stuck together, which would also make it difficult to open and close the book.
- Cover corners are slightly bumpy
The corners of the cover contain light traces of press marks and lumps. This is an unavoidable part of the manufacturing process.
- Color may vary slightly based on viewing screen
The color of the product may be slightly different in actuality than compared to how it appeared on a computer or smartphone screen.
