Our Henry Cuir covers are individually hand-crafted in leather craftsman Henri Beguelin’s studio in Italy. What ultimately sets these covers apart is the thick cowhide leather, which is vegetable-tanned by hand to allow the color and luster to deepen over years of use. The 2015 edition Henry Cuir covers have replaced the butterfly stopper-style pen holders with a belt style. The bamboo charm on the bookmark is branded with the image of two dogs playing.
Caffe has a strikingly deep concentration of color modeled after ristretto, the darkest roast of Italian coffee. The yellow stitching at the top and bottom soften the cover’s overall look while giving it a contemporary feel.

- All covers are hand-made and may contain slight variances
This cover is painstakingly hand-crafted by an artisan in Henry Beguelin’s workshop in Italy. We’ve paid careful attention to making every cover the same dimensions, but because every cover is created by hand, there will be slight differences between every cover. Please enjoy your very own one-of-a-kind Henri Cuir cover.
- About the original texture of the leather
The leather used in Essence and Destin are carefully selected by Henry Beguelin and vegetable-tanned to retain an all-natural feel. The individuality of each cover is protected by preserving the naturally-occurring characteristics of leather such as wrinkles, scratches, stains or vein marks. Please note that tone may vary between covers due to factors such as compatibility of the dye and the leather, time of staining, and differences in environment.
- Beads are chosen from several colors
Small beads sewn into the cover are specially chosen from a collection of several colors, making each cover different. We hope you enjoy the variation and anticipation in finding which random beads you receive.
- Sliding no-slip pens into the pen holder
Depending on the material of the cover, pens with rubber grips may be difficult to slide into the holder.
- Maximum pen width for pen holder
The pen holder is designed to perfectly fit the 12.2mm (0.48”) diameter Jetstream pen offered as a free bonus gift with select Hobonichi Web Shop products. Pens with a greater diameter than 12 mm may not fit properly in the holder.
- Leather coloring stains
The leather used in these covers does not contain color protectant. Please note that coloring will cause stains if the leather adheres to or rubs against another object, so please use caution.
- If your cover gets wet
Immediately dab your cover with a dry cloth if it gets wet. Avoid drying it with high temperatures, and place it in a well-ventilated place in the shade.
- Avoid storing in hot and humid places
Please avoid storing your cover in hot, humid places or placing it on potentially adhesive substances for long periods of time as this may result in lower product quality and color stains.
Please use caution when storing.
- Cover cannot be used with Cover on Cover
The Essence and Destin covers are slightly larger than other covers in the lineup, so they will not fit the Cover on Cover. Also, the PVC plastic of the Cover on Cover contains plasticizer additives which may cause a reaction in the leather dye and affect the color and quality of the leather cover. Please refrain from using the Cover on Cover with this product.
- Caring for your leather cover
These covers are very delicate, so please use caution when maintaining them. Gently wiping your cover with a soft, dry cloth once in a while will be sufficient. For removing stains and other routine care to extend the life of your leather, we recommend using the Leather Care Goods available in the Hobonichi Store. Hobonichi has partnered with R&D Co., Ltd. to provide customers with critically-acclaimed leather care products.
