Looking at physiology, a cold body cannot contain enough blood mass to transport oxygen or nutrients as it should. The human metabolism requires a good blood flow in order to break down stuff and set energy free, but with insufficient circulation the cell function becomes poor, enzymes cannot work properly to break down various elements and the body cannot create enough heat. In order for these enzymes to work, it requires an optimum temperature between 37 or 38 degrees. When the overall temperature is too low, the oxygen loses its strength to react and puts a strain on the immune system. This also has an effect on our mental activity. In short, a cold body can be the root of any sickness from life-style related diseases to cancer.
A warm body is important - with extra emphasis on a warm stomach and warm thighs since those are the areas which contain most blood flow compared to other parts of the body. The thighs alone make out one forth of our entire muscles. Big muscles contain a lot of blood, so when those muscles gets warm, the blood flowing throughout the body will increase in temperature. It was discovered that by heating your thighs alone with a hot water bottle, the quantity of white blood cells increases measurably. Stomach and thighs are just the parts where Haramaki or Hobonichi's woolen pants do a great job.

Looking after the right body temperature prevents sickness, sterility and can even be a good diet. Simply by heating up the body, various neglected functions such as the right enzyme reactions, a good metabolism and circulation come back to life. This helps to actually make the enzymes work to break down food fast and set the energy free - rather then turn it into unappropriated fat.
But a warm body is also important to lift our spirits.
The heart literally turns cold when the body temperature goes down resulting in a negative mood-swing. Simply by keeping oneself cosy and warm at all times results in a better outlook on life.
Therefore I often tell my patients "warm up your body". Our culture has developed lots of "cooling habits". Drinking cold drinks or staying in a cool room all result in chilling one's body when we need to do the opposite. Always keep in mind to warm your body and protect your health.
